Project Results of “Together for Clean Rivers” Presented
The final conference of the “Together for Clean Rivers” project, implemented by ACDC and REC, was held on 29 July 2026 at the EU House in North Mitrovica.
The conference presented the project’s key results, including a publication on the state of the Ibar/Ibër River, a pollution source inventory, and recommendations for the sustainable management of water resources.
The publication, developed based on field visits, spatial analysis, and a review of available documentation, covers more than 200 mapped critical locations. These include illegal waste disposal sites, direct sewage discharges, sand and gravel extraction sites, water barriers, and other sources of environmental degradation. The findings and recommendations provide a basis for developing future projects and measures by local governments and relevant institutions.
The project results and the protection of water resources were discussed by Stefan Kalaba from ACDC, Florentina Hajdari Hajra from the SKAT/IWRM-K programme, researcher Ljubiša Mijačić, and Professor Jelena Đokić. The conference was also attended by REC representatives, civil society and media representatives, young volunteers, and environmental protection experts.
The project aimed to improve the quality of water resources and strengthen environmental governance in the multi-ethnic communities of North and South Mitrovica, Zvečan/Zveçan, Zubin Potok, and Leposavić/Leposaviq.
The project was supported under the Integrated Water Resources Management in Kosovo Programme (IWRM-K), funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the Government of Kosovo, and implemented by SKAT Consulting Ltd. in consortium with the Environment Agency Austria (EAA).
