At the conference held on May 16th at the premises of NGO ACDC, as part of the project "Facilitating Interethnic Cooperation among Students in Kosovo," implemented by NGOs ACDC and REC with financial support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Italy, the topic was interethnic cooperation among youth in Kosovo.
North Mitrovica, May 16, 2024 - As part of the project “Facilitating Interethnic Cooperation among Students in Kosovo,” implemented by the NGOs Advocacy Center for Democratic Culture (ACDC) and REC and funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Italy, a public conference was held on May 16 at the premises of NGO ACDC. The conference focused on the theme of interethnic cooperation among youth in Kosovo.
Panelists Dušan Radaković (Executive Director of NGO ACDC), Lulzim Hakaj (Representative of NGO REC), Marija Savić (Law Graduate), and Gentiana Zeqiri (Civil Activist) discussed the challenges and opportunities for improving interethnic cooperation among youth.
Dušan Radaković presented the project and the research findings, emphasizing the insufficient cooperation among youth from different ethnic communities as an alarming result. He highlighted the need for more activities to encourage collaboration and connection among young people from different ethnic groups to reduce prejudices and increase mutual understanding.
Lulzim Hakaj spoke about REC’s experiences in organizing activities with youth from different communities. He pointed out that students from the Serbian and Albanian communities rarely cooperate but expressed hope that the situation would change through joint projects and activities promoting multiethnic cooperation.
Gentiana Zeqiri shared her experiences from Skenderaj, where they had opportunities to connect youth from different ethnic communities through various projects. She emphasized the importance of continuing such initiatives to ensure that young people continue to socialize and cooperate even after the project's conclusion, while Marija Savić highlighted the importance of seminars and activities organized by NGOs to improve cooperation among youth.
The conference provided valuable insights and underscored the need for systemic changes to support the inclusion of youth from different ethnic communities.
