Unforgettable experiences and friendships: Memories from the youth camps

During October and November 2024, young people from different communities across Kosovo had the opportunity to participate in a unique series of youth camps, where, through interactive workshops, travel, and socializing, they developed their language skills, learned about cultural diversity, and built new friendships. Through four dynamic camps – from Peja and Gračanica, through culturally rich Prizren, to the final gathering in Prevallac – participants had the chance to improve their communication skills, explore Kosovo's cultural heritage, and strengthen their sense of community.

We asked the participants of our camp series to share their impressions of the training sessions. Dino Redžepi, one of the participants from Prizren, wrote an OP-ED in which he reflected on all aspects of the camps, with a special focus on the friendships he made.

We participated in four camps, each lasting three days. Although each camp had its own unique aspects, one thing was common to all – we had an incredible time and enjoyed every moment. It was an experience we will remember for a long time, as we not only gained new knowledge and visited beautiful places but also formed friendships that enriched us in many ways.

From the very first day at the first camp, a special energy was felt. Our days were filled with laughter, socializing, and activities that amazed us every day. The language workshops for improving Albanian were creative and engaging – we learned through games, group tasks, and casual conversations, making the whole experience relaxed and fun. We learned many new words and phrases, often challenging each other to speak only in Albanian, which usually ended in laughter and funny anecdotes.

Our free time was particularly magical. We gathered around the pool table, organized chess tournaments, or played "Don’t Get Mad, Man" together. Although these games were just for fun, they brought moments full of laughter, jokes, and healthy competition. We often joked that these moments were just as important as the excursions because they brought us closer and made us feel like a family.

However, the most memorable part was visiting beautiful locations. The Patriarchate of Peja mesmerized us with its spiritual tranquility and rich history. The Sinan Pasha Mosque left us speechless with its unique architecture, while in Gračanica, we felt the grandeur of medieval art and the historical significance of the site. Each visit was an opportunity to learn something new and to admire the beauty and diversity of our culture.

This experience was truly special. It brought us joy, new knowledge, and a sense of unity, and we can’t wait to reunite and create even more unforgettable memories.
