Op-ed - Youth and literature: Preserving history through poetry

Since the first grade, I have developed a passion for writing, reading, and literature. I started to write my first poems and entered the world of poetry. I have always wanted to express my feelings, thoughts, and views and realized that the only proper way is through poems. Now I am a member of the Literary Society of Kosovo and Metohija, and I have two collections of poems entitled "Under the ray of the sun" and "A star in a dream" published.

Since the first grade, I have developed a passion for writing, reading, and literature. I started to write my first poems and entered the world of poetry. I have always wanted to express my feelings, thoughts, and views and I realized that the only proper way is through poems. Now I am a member of the Literary Society of Kosovo and Metohija, and I have two collections of poems entitled "Under the ray of the sun" and "A star in a dream" published.

Given that I live in a place rich in history and cultural and historical monuments, the mere theme of my poems was based on that, and in history, I found inspiration for writing. Admittedly, sometimes this may cause a conflict of opinion due to the territorial division of Kosovo, but that does not change the significance and beauty of preserving the most beautiful Serbian shrines and most important events in our history through poems, poetry, and literature. I dedicated most of my poems to heroes who inspired me with their loyalty and sacrificial fight in defending our country. Through my poems, I wanted to bring the audience closer to the history and tradition of our nation, as well as the beauty and homeland of our region.

Being a poet today is very demanding and challenging because we live in an age of criticism and condemnation, in which some other things are valued and in which writing is equal to being crazy - an epithet carried by all artists. I came across various comments and criticisms; however, like many of my colleagues, I found inspiration and motivation in infamous Serbian poets and I was stimulated by professors who stood by me from the very beginning, who guided me and encouraged me. Writing a good piece means completely opening your soul, which can sometimes cause the cruelty of the world in which we create. However, only in this way will the poem be closer to the reader, as today, even the most average person can understand the essence of which the poet himself speaks. To write, we have to read, and expanding our vocabulary is necessary. It is crucial to advance and constantly strive to be better. Nevertheless, what is devastating is that with the advancement of technology, people today are resorting more to other and easier options, and poetry is not sufficiently read and expressed.

What is essential for the Mitrovica region is that there are a lot of writers and poets, and the fact that makes me happy is that these are predominantly young people who, due to their inability to express their opinion, are looking for a way to convey it. And poetry is one of the ways. To my great pleasure, I had the opportunity to read a lot of quality poems from my colleagues. What is typical for most of them is that native and patriotic songs are on the first pages of books. As poets are young people, love poetry is indispensable in those years. First loves, sufferings, and everything that each of us goes through, but does not write down. There are some humorous songs, but the topic of Kosovo is the main subject and is incorporated in each of the above.

I am positive that in a couple of years, literature will progress and many important names will emerge, the interest will be much higher and the created work will be more valued. Literature, language, and culture are rooted in every nation and writing is a way to preserve them. Perhaps that is the greatest beauty of writing.
