On May 17, the NGO Advocacy Center for Democratic Culture hosted a conference on interethnic cooperation among communities in Zvečan/Zveçan and North Mitrovica. The event brought together diverse community representatives who actively engaged in discussions on inter-ethnic interaction and the impact of politics on daily life.
On May 17, the NGO Advocacy Center for Democratic Culture hosted a conference on interethnic cooperation among communities in Zvečan/Zveçan and North Mitrovica. The event brought together diverse community representatives who actively engaged in discussions on inter-ethnic interaction and the impact of politics on daily life.
During the conference, Lulzim Peci, representing the Office for Communities in the Municipality of Zvečan/Zveçan, talked about the cooperation between communities and the municipality, highlighting both positive and negative aspects of their interaction with different municipal structures. He also emphasized the current state of the municipality, which poses challenges for everyone, particularly non-majority communities.
Ines Aljović Mihajlovic, from the Committee for Communities in the Municipality of Zvečan/Zveçan, provided insights into the committee's role and initiatives. When questioned about the effect of the situation on interethnic relations, Ines expressed her concern that it had worsened significantly.
Bekim Ismaili, the Project Coordinator of CSSP, shared information about the activities carried out in Mitrovica. He discussed the establishment of an education center, the organization of language courses, and the collaborative efforts during times of flooding earlier this year.
The panelists shared valuable insights regarding the challenges of interethnic cooperation within the political landscape and emphasized the continuous need to promote understanding, dialogue, and coexistence among communities in Zvecan and North Mitrovica.
The conference was organized within the NED funded-project "Promoting Interethnic Dialogue in Local Government", that is designed to empower Communities Committees, promote good inter-ethnic relations in local government in northern Kosovo and support the small-scale project initiatives in North Mitrovica and Zvecan.
