A conference dedicated to the situation in correctional institutions in Kosovo was held in Pristina on May 28, 2026, organized by NGO ACDC and the Ombudsperson Institution of Kosovo.
The panel featured Basri Kastrati, Deputy Ombudsperson of Kosovo, Ismail Dibrani, Director of the Kosovo Correctional Service, Shqipe Mala, representative of the Ombudsperson Institution, Bora Belli, project expert, and Dušan Radaković, Executive Director of NGO ACDC.
During the discussion, participants addressed the position of detainees and convicted persons, accommodation conditions, access to healthcare, rehabilitation and reintegration processes, as well as the responsibility of institutions to ensure respect for fundamental human rights. Particular attention was given to access to medical care, communication with family members, transparency in the work of correctional institutions, and the need for continuous improvement of standards in the treatment of persons deprived of liberty.
This activity was implemented within the cooperation between NGO ACDC and the Ombudsperson Institution of Kosovo, with the support of the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), with the aim of improving the protection of human rights and strengthening institutional accountability within the correctional system.
