We, the undersigned, express great concern about the situation in which the former Kosovo police officer, Mr. Dejan Pantić, is. Namely, from the statements of Mr. Pantić's lawyer, we learned that he is still at the Kosovo police base near the Jarinje crossing and that neither his lawyers nor his family members are allowed to visit him or contact him by phone.
As organizations that deal with the rule of law and human rights, we express our protest for such treatment of Mr. Pantić, who was imprisoned outside the detention center on premises that certainly do not meet imprisonment standards either under Kosovo legislation or international conventions. The conditions of his detention, as well as the prevention of contact with his family members and lawyers, represent a grave violation of his human rights and require the urgent involvement of the competent institutions in Kosovo, as well as the engagement of international missions and organizations that deal with human rights.
In view of the above, we invite all relevant institutions and international missions and organizations to intervene to protect Mr. Pantić's rights, and above all the right to contact lawyers and family members. We also expect them to engage, in accordance with their mandate and visit Mr. Pantić in order to ascertain his health and the conditions in which he is being held.
