As part of the project "Enhancing Transparency and Rule of Law in Kosovo-Serb Majority Communities in Kosovo", a public discussion on the position of lawyers in the court in Northern Kosovo was held in North Mitrovica.

The aim of the discussion was to present the current situation in the judicial sector after the resignation of judges, prosecutors and other administrative and support staff from judicial institutions in the north of Kosovo from the point of view of lawyers who are active in judicial practice. The participants at the event were lawyers and legal representatives of Serbs from the north of Kosovo, Nebojsa Vlajić and Jovana Filipović, as well as the executive director of the NGO ACDC, Dušan Radaković.

Dusan Radaković pointed out that the main goal of the discussion is to inform the citizens and the public on the state of justice in Kosovo, particularly in the north of Kosovo after the Serbs in the north left the institutions.

Lawyer Nebojša Vlajić thinks that situation has returned to how it was before integration and that it is almost impossible for citizens living in Kosovo's north to exercise their rights or report any criminal offenses because the judiciary does not work. Vlajic emphasized that the problem is political and it has to be solved politically.

Lawyer Jovana Filipović from Gračanica says that the judiciary, which functions south of the Ibar River, has had no major problems after the departure of the Serbs in the north from Kosovo's institutions. However, she stressed that the language barrier is the biggest problem when it comes to the processes conducted in the part of Kosovo where Albanians represent the majority.

The participants agreed that it is essential to reach an agreement that is in the best interest of the citizens and that the normalization of life is needed in order to solve the problem.
