Signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Municipality North Mitrovica
On Thursday, 3 September, British Ambassador RuairÍ O'Connell attended the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between mayor of North Mitrovica municipality, Mr Goran Rakic, and NGO Advocacy Centre for Democratic Culture (ACDC) Director, Mr Dusan Radakovic.
On Thursday, 3 September, British Ambassador RuairÍ O’Connell attended the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between mayor of North Mitrovica municipality, Mr Goran Rakic, and NGO Advocacy Centre for Democratic Culture (ACDC) Director, Mr Dusan Radakovic.
The project “Civil Society for Transparent Government”, funded by the British Embassy and implemented by the ACDC, aims at empowering Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to effectively monitor and report corruption, it helps local governments to effectively fulfil their legal obligations in terms of transparent governance, and it further raises awareness of citizens about potential corruptive acts and mechanisms to report those.
The signing of the MoU demonstrates the determination of local institutions and CSOs to strengthen the Rule of Law which is essential for protecting individual freedoms, democracy and economic development. On this occasion Ambassador O’Connellsaid: “The only way to deal with corruption is to use people power. The project will help citizens improve public administration and to hold public institutions accountable when there are problems. I am pleased to see cooperation between ACDC and North Mitrovica municipality. The openness of the Municipality to monitoring is a reason for optimism”.
