NGO ACDC - Integration of the judiciary - 6 months later, where are we?

The project is being implemented by "Advocacy Center for Democratic Culture" - ACDC in partnership with "Kontakt plus Radio", with financial support of "Kosovo Foundation for Open Society" - KFOS. The overall objective of the project is to increase the awareness and participation of citizens in the work of integrated judicial institutions in northern Kosovo, through the practice of journalists and civil activism.

The project is being implemented by "Advocacy Center for Democratic Culture" - ACDC in partnership with "Kontakt plus Radio", with financial support of "Kosovo Foundation for Open Society" - KFOS.

The overall objective of the project is to increase the awareness and participation of citizens in the work of integrated judicial institutions in northern Kosovo, through the practice of journalists and civil activism. 

The specific objectives are:

  • Research of the situation in the judiciary after integration process;
  • Public opinion survey on newly-formed judiciary;
  • Strengthening the role of media in monitoring and informing citizens about integration in the judiciary, with a particular focus on the current situation of the Court in northern Kosovo;
  • Improving the cooperation of civil society organizations and the media in timely reporting to the citizens about the judicial system and their rights in front of judiciary institutions.
  • Facilitating the interaction of civil society with judicial institutions with particular emphasis on the involvement of Albanian organizations. 

The results we want to achieve by this project are:

  • The functionality of the judiciary in northern Kosovo has been determined through research;
  • The level of knowledge about the judiciary in northern Kosovo has been determined through research;
  • Citizens' awareness and knowledge of integrated justice in the north has increased;
  • The participation of the media in monitoring the work of the judiciary has increased through proactive journalism. 

The target groups of the project are: judges, prosecutors, representatives of Kosovo's judicial institutions in the Mitrovica region, civil society organizations including Albanian organizations, academic community, media and citizens in northern Kosovo and southern Mitrovica. Project activities will include all four municipalities in northern Kosovo and the municipality of South Mitrovica.

The final beneficiaries of the project are citizens, who should be informed about the newly founded Basic Court in Mitrovica, as well as on the mechanisms for protecting their rights in front of Kosovo Judicial Institutions in Mitrovica region.

The implementation of the project started on May 2 and ends on October 31, 2018.
