Support to Reintegration, Language Rights and Reduction of Case Backlog
The main objective of the project is to improve access to justice in northern Kosovo through strengthening the capacities of judicial institutions, ensuring language rights in court proceedings, improving the availability of free legal aid, and supporting greater inclusion of legal professionals from non-majority communities in the justice system.
Activities
Support to the work of the Basic Court in Mitrovica through the engagement of three translators and three legal associates in order to reduce the number of backlog cases and ensure translation and interpretation in line with language rights.
Support to the Free Legal Aid Office in North Mitrovica through the engagement of legal associates.
Training of young legal professionals from non-majority communities through preparatory trainings for the bar exam.
Support to the reintegration of judges, prosecutors, and judicial staff through the organization of conferences with relevant institutions.
Expected results
Improved efficiency of the court and reduced number of backlog cases;
Increased availability of free legal aid for citizens in the Mitrovica region;
Increased number of young legal professionals from non-majority communities prepared to pass the bar exam;
Contribution to strengthening trust in the justice system and improving access to justice for all communities.
