Project Title: Multiethnic Summer Camps: Linking Through Languages and Culture

Supported by: International Organization for Migration (IOM)

The Youth Empowered through Inclusive School and Societies (YESS) project, funded by the UN-Secretary General’s Peacebuilding Fund, is a 24-month initiative by UNICEF and IOM.

The Advocacy Center for Democratic Culture (ACDC) is implementing a component of the YESS project that includes organizing summer camps for children aged 13 to 18. These camps will bring together students of different ethnicities and abilities and aim to promote a sense of unity, foster intercultural understanding and cultivate important values such as empathy, respect, and cooperation.

Through such interventions, the summer camps will also provide an effective platform for fostering social cohesion, mutual support, and long-lasting relations. This intervention will bring together students from different ethnic communities around common (youth-identified) interests, different programs and extracurricular activities. Throughout the camp, the youth will actively generate concepts for initiatives centered on peacebuilding.

Objectives:

  • Build mutual understanding and cooperation among participants from different ethnic backgrounds.
  • Equip young people with skills in communication, teamwork, and cultural sensitivity.

Activities:

  • Organizing two summer camps for young people aged 13-18 from diverse communities.
  • Implementing a social media campaign to promote positive stories and project impact.

Project Duration: July 2, 2024  to June 30, 2025.
