On May 19, on the premises of the International Business College in North Mitrovica, the NGO Advocacy Center for Democratic Culture (ACDC) organized a public conference "Prevention of Corruption". The conference addressed the institutional response to corruption in the northern municipalities, with particular emphasis on access to information of public importance as well as the role of the Ombudsman Institution of Kosovo in reducing corruption.

The panelists were Mr. Naim Qeljaj, Ombudsman of Kosovo, Mr. Miloš Marković, Judge of the Basic Court in Mitrovica, and Mr. Dušan Radaković, Executive Director of ACDC.

Mr. Milos Markovic stated that the Court has zero tolerance when it comes to cases of corruption and remarked that corruption is difficult to prove and therefore, often does not lead to a conviction. The judge called on citizens to become more involved in the work of the court, attend trials more frequently, and be more informed about cases. Mr. Celaj agreed that corruption is hard to prove and pointed out that the lack of reporting by citizens is one of the central problems as the trust in institutions cannot be increased if cases are not reported. Furthermore, Mr. Celaj stated that many things depend on the political will and the government itself, not only on the institutions. On this occasion, he spoke about the competencies of the Ombudsman Institution in the fight against corruption and expressed readiness to cooperate with the civil sector. NGO ACDC Executive Director, Mr. Dušan Radaković, emphasized that NGO ACDC, through its projects, seeks to contribute to the reduction of corruption and commented that it is important for civil society to be united in fighting corruption.

The conference was organized as part of the project Strengthening the Institutional Response to Corruption in Northern Kosovo.
